Microblading

Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic application technique for enhancing the appearance of the eyebrows, in which pigment matching the natural brow color is applied in fine, short strokes resembling eyebrow hairs into the upper layer of the skin. The purpose is to give the eyebrow a full, natural, and perfectly balanced look. We now offer microblading near you here at Limelight Medical Spa in Cincinnati!

Microblading

If you have sparse or uneven brows and are tired of the daily fill-in, you may be a great candidate for microblading. This procedure, which works on all skin types, is a form of semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing for the upper layer of skin under your eyebrows, designed to give you the appearance of full, balanced, and matching brows shaped just for your face. When you choose microblading with Limelight in Cincinnati, you can expect long-lasting and natural-looking results with our professional aesthetician Adrienne!

Every appointment will begin with a consultation, in which you’ll discuss your desired eyebrow shape, fullness, and color with Adrienne. You’ll then be completely numbed so that you will experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. The procedure itself takes about two hours, during which Adrienne will manually and carefully “etch” each hair with perfection. Over the next two weeks, the eyebrows will heal, during which time the initial color will darken and then fade approximately 50%.

After 6-8 weeks, you’ll come back for a follow-up appointment, in which Adrienne will examine your eyebrows to ensure that they are healed properly. A second application is then provided to fill in and perfect the brow shape and color. A touch up is a repetition of the initial procedure but is shorter, and is done only on the areas that need to be filled in after the healing. It is vital to have the first microblading touch up because only the combination of the procedure itself and the touch up will provide perfect results.

The eyebrows will look clean and neatly shaped during the entire procedure from the first application to the finish, with no downtime. You may experience just some slight redness and puffiness in the eyebrow area, which should dissipate within a day. Adrienne will fill you in on the aftercare and what you can expect during the healing process.

Microblading FAQ

Does microblading hurt?
Nope! We use numbing cream, and you’ll be totally comfortable. You may feel just a minor pressure sensation during the procedure.

Is microblading like a tattoo?
Microblading is technically considered a tattoo since penetration of the blade into the skin is needed to deposit pigment. However, microblading isn’t permanent, and the pigment is inserted only into the upper layers of the skin. Just like traditional tattooing though, there is an “art” to microblading, and your brows will be completely customized just for you.

Will I always need a touch-up?
Yes. Every patient will need a touch-up 6-8 weeks after the initial session, which is $150. Because the healing process for each person is unpredictable, the touch-up is critical to perfecting your final and desired results, and ensuring that your new brows last as long as possible.

How long does the procedure take?
Normally around 2-3 hours max.

How long will my results last?
The average lifespan for microbladed brows is 18 months, but they can last up to 2.5 years depending on your skin and how they are cared for. You can postpone fading with another touch-up or two a year or so after the procedure.

What can I expect after the procedure?
Right after the procedure, your brows may looks a little “harsh” and bolder than intended, but they will soften as they heal. Redness and puffiness will dissipate within a couple of hours. Around a week after the procedure, your brows may begin to flake or scab and fall off. This is normal and necessary and you’ll want to NOT pick at them. Once the scabbing is gone, your brows may appear too light, but this is also normal – the top layer of skin is fresh and muting the pigment. Over the next week or two, your brows will settle into the final results and you’ll begin to see the color return. Slight patching may occur during this time as well.
